In January of 2009 I attended the Morgan caucaus for the upcoming 2009 spring elections in April. There were only a dozen or so people including the board members attending. This is out of the 1000 residents in Morgan, 650 or so potential voters. The caucus results were the town chairman was nominated a supervisor and a supervisor nominated for chairman. The other positions were nominated and all were unopposed nominees. In the April election only about 100 people voted out of the 650 potential voters in Morgan. Where were the remaining 550 voters of Morgan? I guess it is not a surprise knowing that most town meetings have only one or two residents that attend and are usually the same people. I admit I am guilty of this also, I know it is difficult to take time to attend town meetings when you have your work, family, school etc.etc. to keep up with. This made me aware of the fact that Morgan needed and did not have a website. In the next town meeting after the 2009 caucus I went before the board to discuss building a website for the town. The idea was soon approved by the board for me to go ahead with the design / development of www.townofmorgan.org along with help from Charlene Borghese. Over the next couple of years the site has been developed and evolved to be a very interesting informative 14 page website. Hopefully it will be helpful for Morgan citizens that find it very difficult to get informed / involved with the towns business. You really should know what is happening with your local government as this level of government has the most immediate impact on your life. You have invested in your home, are pursuing your career, raising your family and paying taxes in Morgan!! To ignore your local government business is illogical and consequential. Getting together monthly with neighbors, friends and relatives from Morgan for football games, card parties, bonfires etc. is a good way to keep everyone informed with local news. Volunteer one person in your group to attend the next town meeting and rotate turns, this would keep you all in the loop. This makes it interesting and word will spread quickly. The town board needs your input and always welcomes new voices.

When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
